The Monastery Route by bike

Discover the Monastery Route by bike. Lots of variety in the landscape and exciting journeys back in time at the monasteries of Maulbronn, Hirsau, Maria Reuthin and Alpirsbach will help take your mind off cycling uphill. The perfect way to combine culture and physical activity!

The total route is approx. 146 kilometres long. Divided into three stages, the distances are relatively easy to cover. But you will still have enough time to get off your bike and admire the highlights instead of just cycling past. And you should definitely make time, too!

Awaiting you along the way is the Maulbronn monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The cycle path will also take you via the Monastery Route to the former Benedictine abbey of Hirsau, which was one of the most important abbeys in Germany in its day. Awaiting you in the second stage are further highlights: the Hermann Hesse and half-timbered town of Calw and, just a few kilometres away, the Maria Reuthin monastery in Wildberg.

Your third and final stage ends at Alpirsbach Monastery, which graces the Kinzig Valley with its red sandstone buildings.

And in addition to the many historical buildings, there are also plenty of opportunities to take a break from pedalling. Our Bed+Bike hosts have the ideal accommodation for you!
